Time to Start Thinking SPRING in the Elmira Area

Feb 19, 2021

Few Things are Finer Than Spring In Our Neck of the Woods!

Spring is on the way! Believe it or not, the winter months of snow and frigid air will soon fade into those wonderfully warm spring days. As the weather surely thaws, you should as well! The Elmira area has plenty of offerings for you to consider as you start getting out of the house regularly again; check out these spring time activities:

Explore the various Maple Festivals – Heralded by many as the signal that spring is truly starting, maple festivals celebrate the fresh harvest of maple syrup from the many maple trees that grow across the state. Extending from the Elmira area throughout the extent of the Catskills and Western New York, many tree farms celebrate throughout the last two weekends of March with plenty of fresh maple treats. This is also the ideal time to stock up on fresh, real, local maple syrup for your pantry for the coming year – breakfast never tasted better than when topped with local maple syrup!

Visit Mark Twain’s Writing Study – As many area residents know, Mark Twain spent many summers writing on his 200 acre estate just outside of Elmira. Now, his writing cottage is located just adjacent to Elmira College’s campus. Beautifully preserved and open to the public, the single room cottage can be found just a short walk from a Mark Twain exhibit in the neighboring building. As the climate encourages the greenery around the cottage to bloom again, the setting grows into a beautiful setting for the quaint and storied building.

Get your history on at Newtown Battlefield – The location of the 1779 Battle of Newtown is just down the Chemung River from downtown Elmira. This site hosted a pivotal battle during the Revolutionary War – the area is now a state park, hosting the critical position on Sullivan Hill, which is marked with a white granite pillar. Whether you’re interested in the history of the area or just need a good place to get out and explore nature a bit, the Newtown Battlefield State Park is the perfect springtime destination.

Support Local Businesses – This last year has taken an incredible toll on small businesses and the springtime is the perfect time to help support those businesses in recovery. As COVID becomes less of a threat with vaccines rolling out, be sure to spend time at local restaurants when outdoor dining becomes a viable option once again. Locally-funded clubs and sports teams will also be looking to bolster their cash flow as production season rolls back around as well. Everyone has a part in keeping Elmira the wonderful city that it is.

The entire team here at Wallin Insurance is excited for the coming spring season, and we hope that you are too! The Elmira area plays host to so many wonderful opportunities for springtime fun, we hope you get the chance to get out and experience a taste of maple syrup or develop a new writing habit from the power of Mark Twain. As always, should you have any questions about insurance and what coverage you may need – we’re here to help! Please feel welcome to contact us any time.
